Heirs Insurance Group has officially closed applications for its Hackathon 2026, recording an overwhelming number of submissions from undergraduate teams across the country.

According to the underwriting group, students responded with bold, tech-driven ideas designed to reshape Nigeria’s insurance landscape — proving that the next wave of industry disruptors may already be on campus.

A Surge of Fresh Ideas

In a statement announcing the closure of entries, the company praised participants for the creativity and depth of their proposals.

The submissions reportedly featured practical, scalable solutions aimed at modernizing insurance systems, improving accessibility, and driving digital transformation across the sector.

“We received an impressive number of submissions from undergraduate teams across the country — each presenting bold, practical solutions to transform Nigeria’s insurance systems,” the company stated.

What Happens Next?

The competition is now entering a rigorous evaluation stage.

From February to March 2026, a panel of technology leaders and insurance experts will assess entries based on innovation, feasibility, scalability, and industry relevance.

Here’s the roadmap:

  • 15 semi-finalist teams will be shortlisted
  • Semi-finalists will move to the interview and pitch stage
  • 5 finalist teams will qualify for the core hackathon phase

Inside the Hackathon Experience

The official Hackathon Kick-off, scheduled for March 2026, promises more than just coding.

Participants will engage in:

✔ mentorship workshops
✔ coding sprints
✔ API integration
✔ real-customer user testing

This hands-on structure ensures that ideas evolve beyond theory into viable digital solutions.

The Grand Finale — And ₦9 Million at Stake

The competition will climax in April 2026, when the five finalist teams unveil fully functional Minimum Viable Products (MVPs).

At the end of the showdown, three winning teams will emerge to share a ₦9 million prize pool.
