Cornerstone Insurance Feeds 500 Students in Agege Through “Show Love with Insurance” Initiative

In a powerful demonstration of corporate social responsibility, Cornerstone Insurance Plc has expanded its scope of care beyond financial services by providing hot meals to 500 students in Agege, Lagos, under its Valentine-themed campaign, “Show Love with Insurance.”

The initiative was executed in partnership with the Lagos Food Bank Initiative as part of the EduFood Programme, reinforcing the insurer’s commitment to community impact and child welfare.

Supporting Education Through Nutrition

The beneficiaries included students from:

  • De Royal School, Papa Ashaffa, Agege
  • Al-Huda Schools, Papa Ashaffa, Agege
  • Debby & Frank Schools, Morikaz, Agege

The EduFood Programme directly addresses food insecurity among schoolchildren in underserved communities. By providing nutritious meals, the initiative aims to:

  • Reduce school absenteeism
  • Boost enrolment rates
  • Improve concentration and academic performance
  • Ease the financial burden on struggling families

With over 11 million children in Nigeria affected by food poverty annually, according to cited research, the programme delivers not just meals, but hope and encouragement to vulnerable pupils.

Showing Love Beyond Insurance Policies

Representing the Group Managing Director/CEO, Mr. Stephen Alangbo, was Cordelia Ekeocha, Group Head of Marketing & Corporate Communications, who joined volunteers on-site to serve the children.

“Coming back this year feels even more special,” Ekeocha said. “When you see their faces light up with a simple plate of food, it reminds us why we do what we do. Feeding these children is not just about a meal — it’s about showing them they matter and raising awareness that hunger affects learning.”

She emphasised that insurance companies can play a broader role in society, extending care beyond underwriting policies and processing claims.

Investing in Nigeria’s Future

Speaking on the initiative, Stephen Alangbo reaffirmed the company’s commitment to uplifting communities.

“At Cornerstone, we see our role as more than underwriting risks; we are committed to uplifting lives wherever we can. Supporting the EduFood Programme is a meaningful step toward investing in our children’s potential and contributing to a healthier, more educated Nigeria,” he said.

He added that when children attend school on a full stomach, they gain more than knowledge — they gain confidence and hope for a better future.

Corporate Social Responsibility in Action

The Agege outreach highlights how strategic partnerships between private sector organisations and non-profits can create measurable social impact. By aligning insurance with compassion, Cornerstone Insurance continues to demonstrate that true security goes beyond financial protection — it includes community development and social responsibility.

As food insecurity remains a pressing challenge in Nigeria, initiatives like “Show Love with Insurance” underscore the importance of collective action in building stronger, more resilient communities.
