NNPC Ltd Unveils Health Insurance Scheme for Petrol Station Attendants Nationwide

In a major step toward improving workers’ welfare and enhancing customer service across its retail outlets, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has launched a dedicated health insurance scheme for petrol station attendants nationwide.

The new initiative, called the Attendants’ Health Insurance Scheme, is being implemented by NNPC Retail Ltd in partnership with NNPC HMO. More than 7,000 service attendants across the country will be onboarded onto the health insurance platform—ensuring guaranteed access to quality medical care for frontline retail workers.

A Milestone in Service Excellence and Employee Welfare

Speaking at the launch ceremony held at the NNPC Mega Station in Abuja, Baba-Shettima Kukawa, Executive Director of Retail Operations and Mobility (representing the Managing Director of NNPC Retail Ltd), described the scheme as a landmark achievement in the company’s mission to improve customer experience.

He emphasized that station attendants are the company’s primary customer touchpoints, and their well-being directly influences service quality in today’s increasingly competitive retail environment.

“We have developed a comprehensive package known as the ‘Attendant Framework,’ focused on enhancing their overall welfare. As part of this initiative, we are pleased to announce the rollout of HMO coverage effective this month,” he said.
“Our goal is to elevate service delivery so that every customer interaction reflects care, professionalism, and excellence—ultimately fostering loyalty and continued patronage.”

More Than Welfare — A Strategy for Better Efficiency and Growth

According to Kukawa, the health insurance scheme goes beyond welfare benefits. It is designed to:

  • Strengthen operational efficiency
  • Boost employee productivity
  • Support long-term business sustainability
  • Reinforce NNPC’s commitment to its people and customers

By investing in frontline workers, NNPC Retail is taking a holistic approach to improving the overall retail experience across its filling stations.

NNPC HMO Partners with Trusted Healthcare Providers

Also speaking at the event, Ademola Adebusuyi, Deputy Director of Information Technology (representing the Managing Director of NNPC HMO), assured attendees that the health management organization is working with reputable healthcare providers nationwide to ensure attendants receive reliable, high-quality medical attention.

He reaffirmed NNPC HMO’s commitment to supporting the health of workers who serve millions of Nigerians daily.

Conclusion: A Game-Changer for the Downstream Retail Workforce

The rollout of NNPC’s Attendants’ Health Insurance Scheme marks a transformative moment for Nigeria’s downstream oil and gas industry. By prioritizing the welfare of frontline attendants, NNPC Ltd is not only enhancing employee well-being but also elevating customer service standards and driving long-term business value.
