Digital innovation in Nigeria’s insurance sector has received a major boost, as top industry leaders lauded the Insurance Meets Tech (IMT) initiative for revolutionizing the way insurance is perceived, accessed, and delivered across the country.
At the opening of the maiden CIIN Insurance Awareness Week in Lagos, the Commissioner for Insurance/CEO of NAICOM, Mr. Olusegun Omosehin, and President of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN), Mrs. Yetunde Ilori, praised IMT for advancing a tech-driven agenda that is modernizing the industry and reaching new demographics.
IMT: Bridging Technology and Insurance
Held under the theme “Insurance for All: Securing Nigeria’s Future”, the awareness week brought together key stakeholders from across the insurance, technology, and policy sectors to discuss how innovation can drive wider adoption of insurance across Nigeria.
In his remarks, Omosehin emphasized the urgency of embracing digital tools in today’s fast-evolving economic environment:
“Digital innovation is no longer optional—it’s essential. Platforms like Insurance Meets Tech are catalysts for industry-wide disruption and modernization. They are helping us build trust and push insurance deeper into every segment of Nigerian society,” he stated.
Mrs. Ilori echoed this sentiment, noting that IMT is helping reshape the industry for the better:
“IMT is breaking traditional boundaries and opening up space for innovation—especially among younger, tech-driven audiences. The future of insurance in Nigeria depends on how well we adapt and integrate digital technologies into our operations,” she said.
Collaboration is Key to Industry Growth
Founder and Convener of Insurance Meets Tech, Mr. Odion Aleobua, expressed gratitude for the high-level endorsements:
“We are honoured by the support from leaders like Mr. Omosehin and Mrs. Ilori. Their recognition shows a collective resolve to push Nigeria’s insurance industry into a more digitally inclusive future.”
Aleobua added that IMT will continue to serve as a platform where regulators, practitioners, and tech innovators collaborate to build a smarter, more accessible insurance ecosystem.
Why This Matters:
- Nigeria’s insurance penetration rate remains low despite a large, underserved population.
- Tech-enabled platforms like IMT are vital for insurance access, policyholder trust, and financial inclusion.
- Events like this build momentum for InsurTech adoption, youth engagement, and public awareness.
