AXA Mansard Warns Against Fake Third-Party Motor Insurance as Enforcement Begins

AXA Mansard Insurance Plc has advised vehicle owners across Nigeria to ensure they obtain only genuine Third-Party Motor Insurance policies as the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) begins nationwide enforcement of the policy from February 1, 2025.

The enforcement aligns with Section 68 of the Insurance Act 2003 and has received backing from the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) and the Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA). This initiative aims to improve compliance, enhance road safety, and protect both motorists and third parties.

Speaking on the development, Adebola Surakat, Chief Marketing Officer of AXA Mansard Insurance Plc, warned that unscrupulous agents might take advantage of the enforcement by selling fake insurance policies to unsuspecting vehicle owners. She emphasized the risks of counterfeit policies, stating that they cannot be presented to the police or used to make claims in the event of an accident.

“As a brand committed to protecting our customers, we strongly advise motorists to obtain their insurance policies only from licensed and trusted insurers,” Surakat said. “If people fall victim to fake insurance, it damages trust in the industry, and they will face financial risks without any protection.”

To avoid falling prey to fraudsters, she encouraged motorists to verify insurers through the NAICOM or NIA websites. She also noted that AXA Mansard has made it easier for customers to purchase genuine Third-Party or Comprehensive Motor Insurance online, via its website, mobile app, or welcome centers nationwide, with certificates available in under five minutes.

AXA Mansard reassured customers of its commitment to providing affordable and accessible motor insurance solutions, ensuring prompt claims payment and seamless customer service.

As enforcement continues, the company urged all vehicle owners to prioritize authenticity when purchasing insurance policies, protecting themselves from legal and financial liabilities associated with fake policies.
