LASG Launches 60-Day Ilera Eko Roadshow to Expand Healthcare Access

The Lagos State Government (LASG) has flagged off a 60-day Ilera Eko Door-to-Door Sensitisation Campaign and Roadshow in Ojo Local Government Area, aiming to boost enrollment in the Lagos State Social Health Insurance Scheme, Ilera Eko.

Speaking at the launch, Dr. Emmanuella Zamba, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA), highlighted the importance of affordable and accessible healthcare for Lagosians. She stated that the initiative would cover households and communities in Ojo LGA, Oriade LCDA, and Agbara, ensuring that residents are well-informed about Ilera Eko’s benefits and registration process.

The campaign also features an incentive for early registration, with residents who enroll by Valentine’s Day eligible for a special gift. Dr. Zamba emphasized that health insurance is now mandatory in Lagos under the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) Act of 2022 and Governor Sanwo-Olu’s 2024 Executive Order.

She explained that Ilera Eko covers 80% of medical expenses, including consultations, treatment for common illnesses, maternity care, chronic disease management, and surgeries. The enrollment cost is ₦15,000 per individual, ₦55,000 for a family of four, and ₦80,000 for a family of six. To ease payments, LASG has introduced ILERA N’TIWA Cooperative, allowing residents to pay in installments.

Local government officials, traditional rulers, and health stakeholders have expressed strong support for the initiative, recognizing its role in reducing out-of-pocket healthcare expenses and ensuring that even residents in remote areas can access quality medical services.

With healthcare costs rising and access remaining a challenge for many, Ilera Eko offers a lifeline to Lagosians, providing financial protection and improved health outcomes for individuals and families across the state.
